Our Services

Custom Orthoses

Insoles, or orthoses to give them their proper name, are a tool used to help reduce pain and get you back to activity. We can offer various options in clinic, from modified off the shelf orthoses to fully bespoke, to suit any need or problem, and we can tailor orthoses to fit different shoes.

Orthoses are not always needed for life and can be a simple tool used for a period of time to help you get back to your activity.

Types of Orthoses

These can be a quick and simple way to help you on your road to recovery. They can also be useful as a short term device and we can often issue these at your initial appointment, if required.

Fully bespoke orthotics are completely tailored to your needs, weight and footwear, allowing us to arrive at the right prescription for you. These can be refurbished over time and the prescription can also be adapted over the years, if required. NK Active can also offer bespoke sandals for summer wear.

FAQ

You can get orthoses to fit any shoe, but it depends on the orthoses and the shoe relationship.

Sometimes a prescription may need amending but if your orthoses are working well and you are doing everything that you want to do, it is unlikely that you will need to change them. As they say “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

With bespoke orthoses and off-the-shelf orthoses, we will keep the prescription on file so that a repeat order can be made at anytime.

Benefits and Outcomes of Getting Custom Orthotics

Custom orthotics are designed to support your body’s natural movement, reduce strain on muscles and joints, and address the root cause of pain. They help to distribute pressure more evenly and help with any abnormal gait patterns. Most people notice reduced pain, improved comfort, and increased ability to return to physical activity.

At NK Active, we regularly audit our results – and 98% of patients are still active and meeting their goals six months after finishing treatment. Orthotics can be part of a broader plan to improve your long-term mobility, strength and resilience.

Orthotics FAQs

Most custom orthotics last 2–5 years, depending on how often you wear them, the type of materials used, and your activity level. We recommend a review if your symptoms return or your shoes start to wear unevenly.

Not always. Orthotics can be a temporary tool to help manage pain or improve function during rehab. Some people need them long-term, especially for structural foot conditions, while others can reduce use over time as strength and mobility improve.

We design orthotics to fit into most day-to-day footwear, including work shoes, trainers, and walking boots. If you wear a variety of shoes, we can adjust the shape and size or recommend multiple pairs to suit different styles.

Some people experience mild discomfort or pressure when first adjusting to orthotics – especially if they’re correcting long-standing movement issues. This usually settles within a few days. We’ll guide you on a gradual wear-in schedule to help with the transition.

If you experience persistent foot, leg or lower back pain, or notice poor posture, uneven wear on your shoes, or discomfort during walking or exercise, it may be worth seeing a podiatrist. We’ll assess your movement and advise whether orthotics could help.
