Custom Orthotics in Romsey
If you are struggling with persistent foot, ankle, knee or hip pain, or finding that injuries keep returning, custom foot orthoses can play an important role in improving how your body moves. At NK Active, we combine clinical expertise with advanced 3D printing technology to create orthotics tailored specifically to you.
We support patients from Romsey, the New Forest, Winchester, Salisbury, Basingstoke, Andover, Chandler’s Ford, Southampton and Petersfield who are looking for long-term solutions, not short-term fixes.
What Are Custom Orthotics?
Unlike standard insoles, our orthotics are designed using detailed clinical assessment and manufactured in-house using 3D printing technology. This allows us to precisely match the shape, structure and function of your feet, as well as your lifestyle and activity demands.
They are not simply about cushioning. They are used to influence movement patterns, reduce excessive strain and improve overall biomechanics.

This approach allows us to:
- Create highly accurate prescriptions based on your individual biomechanics and needs
- Adjust designs with precision as your needs change
- Ensure faster turnaround times compared to outsourced manufacturing
- Maintain complete control over quality and consistency

- Experience ongoing foot, ankle, knee or hip discomfort

FAQ
Can I use them in different shoes?
Do orthoses need to change over time?
Sometimes a prescription may need amending but if your orthoses are working well and you are doing everything that you want to do, it is unlikely that you will need to change them. As they say “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
What happens when they wear out?

Orthotics FAQs
How long do custom orthotics last?
Most custom orthotics last 2–5 years, depending on how often you wear them, the type of materials used, and your activity level. We recommend a review if your symptoms return or your shoes start to wear unevenly.
Will I need to wear orthotics forever?
Not always. Orthotics can be a temporary tool to help manage pain or improve function during rehab. Some people need them long-term, especially for structural foot conditions, while others can reduce use over time as strength and mobility improve.
Can I use custom orthotics in all my shoes?
We design orthotics to fit into most day-to-day footwear, including work shoes, trainers, and walking boots. If you wear a variety of shoes, we can adjust the shape and size or recommend multiple pairs to suit different styles.
Do orthotics hurt at first?
Some people experience mild discomfort or pressure when first adjusting to orthotics – especially if they’re correcting long-standing movement issues. This usually settles within a few days. We’ll guide you on a gradual wear-in schedule to help with the transition.
How do I know if I need orthotics?
If you experience persistent foot, leg or lower back pain, or notice poor posture, uneven wear on your shoes, or discomfort during walking or exercise, it may be worth seeing a podiatrist. We’ll assess your movement and advise whether orthotics could help.
