Injury Treatment & Rehabilitation
Your Injury
We know that keeping active is a vital part of a healthy lifestyle; however, unfortunately injuries can happen. They can come on suddenly or build up over time, on that final training run before an event or even just on a gentle amble on a Sunday afternoon. So, whether you want to get back to the sport you love or just to be more mobile, our team of professionals can help you get back to doing this.
Initial Appointment
We always start with an initial appointment. This will include a detailed examination, a review of your medical and injury history, and a discussion around what it is that you are hoping to achieve from seeing us. Following this we will recommend a bespoke treatment plan, which might include a Run 3D gait analysis, strength testing and/or a rehabilitation programme.
3D Gait Analysis
The Run 3D gait analysis equipment is located in our Romsey clinic. This is a state-of-the-art diagnostic tool that uses 3D motion cameras and sensors to scientifically analyse the way that you run or walk. We often recommend this if we want to look at how you are moving, to see if your gait is having an impact and causing symptoms. We can also test you in different footwear, with and without orthotics, and when fatigued, to assess the impact that this has.
Stength Testing
Strength testing is another of our diagnostic tools. We are big fans of strength testing, as this can tell us a lot about why injuries might be occurring, particularly repeated issues in an area, as this can often be due to weakness or a strength imbalance between the left and right. Strength testing can be done as a stand-alone appointment, or during the first session of a rehab programme. We use a handheld dynamometer, and/or force plates, to measure your strength in a range of muscle groups. This information then generates a report which we can use to create a bespoke exercise programme for you. It also gives us a baseline from which to build on your strength, so that if we do repeated strength testing it is clear to see any improvements that are made.
Our Move Forwards Package
Our Move Forwards package is our bespoke rehab programme, which is carried out over 5 sessions and can also include shockwave therapy, if required. As above, we start with strength testing and then create a treatment plan/exercise programme that is bespoke to you. The initial session is 60 minutes, followed by 3 further 45-minute appointments, and then a final 60-minute appointment to repeat the strength testing, assess your progress and advise whether further treatment is recommended. These programmes are generally carried out over a 3–4-month period, during which time we are on hand to answer your questions as you progress through your plan. The aim of this programme is to get you back to activity, as well to improve your strength and reduce the risk of future injuries. We know from our data that 97% of people achieve their goals from these programmes.
