Functional podiatry- An interview with Doctor Emily Splichal
For this weeks episode of the NK Active podcast we were very pleased to interview an international guest. Dr Emily Splichal practices functional podiatry in the United States. Functional podiatry looks at the body from an integrated perspective. The approach to podiatry in the US is slightly different to the way we approach it here in the UK and with this in mind we were keen to explore this in more detail within the interview.
Podiatry in the united stated is heavily focused on surgery. Emily trained as a surgeon and practiced surgery for five years before moving towards functional movement, functional medicine and regenerative medicine. She now refers to herself as a human movement specialist.
This thought provoking episode really does explore the debate around whether going under the knife is ever the correct solution and why a human led approach to treatment is the key to success.
Within the interview we also discuss the evolution of Emily’s product line Naboso. Naboso provides the first-ever small nerve proprioceptive insoles and mats designed to stimulate the nervous system and enhance movement. One of Emily’s specialities is barefoot running and through her research she has looked at length into the best types of surface for optimising and engaging the foot. Naboso provides the first-ever small nerve proprioceptive insoles and mats designed to stimulate the nervous system and enhance movement.
